Training Sustainability

Hey, fellow runners!

I’ve recently heard about a surge of televised attempts to transform sedentary individuals into marathon runners overnight, often led by renowned former athletes or sports physicians and felt very skeptical (as I often feel while scrolling in the vast realm of social media).

📺 I think that while these endeavors may seem inspiring on the surface, they often overlook a fundamental truth of our human nature, which is the following one:

Our body requires time to adapt to physical activity.

Think about it: every high-performance athlete undergoes years of gradual conditioning, transitioning from adolescence to adulthood, to withstand the rigors of elite competition.

🏋️‍♀️ It’s a process that cannot be rushed or circumvented without risking serious injury, overuse, and burnout.

Considering those who impulsively commit to extreme challenges like an Ironman® on a whim or a bet…this could be a dangerous misconception, if not properly rationalized.

Statistics show indeed that these endeavors fail a staggering 90% of the time, leaving participants disillusioned and physically battered. 🤕

But here’s the thing:

Together, we hold the power to change this (toxic) narrative.

It’s time to shift our perspective and embrace a philosophy of long-term performance building.

🌱 Instead of seeking quick fixes or instant gratification, let’s prioritize sustainable progress that honors our body’s natural limits and capabilities.

And to do so, we can start by setting realistic goals and gradually increasing our activity levels over time – and by promoting this approach within our circle.

🏃‍♂️ Listening to our body, respecting its signals, and prioritize rest and recovery as essential components of our fitness journey.

Remember: true fitness isn’t about achieving a specific milestone or completing a single race—it’s about cultivating a lifelong commitment to health and well-being.

🌟 So, let’s ditch the shortcuts and embrace the journey together!

Our body will be thankful we chose this approach in the long run. 💪

Keep pushing, but always with care...

and Feel Your Run!
